Civ Lab 2013-2014

What is Civ Lab?

Civ Lab is the use of traditional classroom methods of teaching fused with modern day technology to bring social studies concepts to life.  Each class is a state and is competing against my other classes, classes in Washington County, and classes in Montgomery county.  The partnership between the three teachers makes the game useful and extremely unpredictable when attempting to teach Soc St concepts.  In my US history class the simulation has been used to teach concepts from the Amer Revolution all the way up until reconstruction.  The simulation is also incredibly useful to teach principles of American Government, since the students model state and local  govts, colonial rule, confederate, and federal govt. as they make decisions.  This part of the simulation allows the students to really try on the concepts that we teach and put them into practice, which engenders critical thinking/problem solving skills, etc.

I would like to personally thank my partner teachers for allowing me to be a part of this ever growing experiment.  It really has been a lot of fun for everyone and has revolutionized the way I teach.  Maybe one of these years one of my classes will actually win...  :)

This page will record the election results and the different bills that were passed by congress.

5-10-14

After a rash of assassinations the leadership of America has been decimated.  A large scale war is raging on between the states and the US President has begged the Europeans to come help stop the war.  Armies are moving all around the nation and battles have erupted in almost all of the states!  The only state left in the Union is Maryland.  All others have seceded and are going it alone...

4/28/14

CIVIL WAR!

Alaska Seceeded from the Union 4/28/14!  Legislature declared war on Texas and only the state of Texas.  They beleive Texas is inferior and should be reduced to rubble.

Texas Seceeded because Federal Government was to slow to respond and the general rabble rousers in the legislature ceased the day.  The Texas Legislature voted to seceed by two votes.

California:  Voted to seceed 7-5.  The President of the US is from California and declared today: "You will not leave!"  He also declared Martial Law.  Plans to use the Federal military to fight the war.  The Union is not going to collapse on his watch.

Mass:  Seceeded 19-2.  Will hold elections soon and is talking about forming a confederacy.

Maryland:  Stayed in the Union overwhelmingly.  Voted to leave the Cherokee Indians alone.

Looks like the war is on!
